Program update: Vermont Health Information Exchange Landscape
HealthTech Solutions develops comprehensive, pivotal report for the state
The state of Vermont contracted with technology and consultancy firm, HealthTech Solutions, to evaluate the effectiveness of HIT and the exchange of health information. The team analyzed nine other health information exchanges (HIEs), interviewed nearly 100 people, and compared the results with Vermont’s HIE. HealthTech Solutions’ findings indicated that the state’s designated HIE was plagued with governance, operational, and financial problems. HealthTech Solutions made a series of recommendations to correct for these issues.
After presenting these findings to the Green Mountain Care Board in Vermont, the state’s Department of Health Access Deputy Commissioner, Michael Costa, said “This is the right work to get us all back on track.”
HealthTech Solutions’ presentation of this report to the state, as well as the subsequent discussion, was covered in local and trade press (for example: VT Digger, EHR Intelligence, Healthcare Finance News, Connected Care Watch, and Bennington Banner). The report’s key findings are summarized here, and the full report can be found on the state legislature’s site, here.
